VSO volunteers in education and women empowerment

Dispositif britannique, au Mozambique

In 2017/2018, VSO supported over 1.5 million of the poorest people in 24 countries across Africa and Asia.

Using our unique volunteering for development approach we brought thousands of people together to generate insights, ideas and, above all, action on poverty and exclusion.

VSO is the world’s leading international development organisation that fights poverty through the lasting power of volunteers, but we can’t achieve our mission without your help.

The communities we work in need people like you – experienced professionals and young people - with the ideas, energy and courage to make a difference.
Placement lengths are usually between one to two years, but roles of six months and less are sometimes available for highly experienced professionals and for your young people.

Professional volunteers support people to develop their skills enabling them to achieve their goals. They may be international, including from neighbouring countries in Africa and Asia, or they may volunteer in their own countries.
From VSO you’ll get something few other volunteering organisations offer. An opportunity of using your skills and experience to have a long-lasting impact on peoples’ lives.

You’ll do something very different. You’ll bring inspiration, energy and vital practical skills to help secure better healthcare, more valuable education and broader opportunities for poor people in Africa and Asia.

VSO Mozambique is launching a new programme in February 2019 which aims to increase access to education, improve literacy and numeracy and enhance economic empowerment for out-of-school girls and young women ages 15-19. Several volunteer placements are available for English / French speaking education professionals, sexual reproductive health advisers, gender and disability advisers and small business/livelihoods advisers.

‘’If you’re thinking about volunteering I would say do it ! It’s amazing. I absolutely love it and if you get the chance, you should definitely give it a go. I think it’s fantastic to do and can build your confidence in so many ways. It gives you a unique experience that can have such a positive impact on other people.’’
Mike Ashby, VSO volunteer.
