Volontariat International de la Francophonie (VIF)

This programme set up by the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie in 2006 is to allow young French-speaking people to put their skills at the service of a project. They experience international mobility within the French-speaking community and this experience will be incorporated in their professional career. During the pilot phase in 2007-2009, 37 young people from 14 countries became French-speaking volunteers. For the period 2010-2013, this programme ran with a total of 150 volunteer postings.

This programme promotes :

  • the French language and linguistic and cultural diversity,
  • peace, democracy and the human rights,
  • education, training and culture,
  • support for sustainable development and solidarity,
  • new information and communication technologies to reduce the digital divide,
  • strengthen local abilities in economic, social and cultural development.

Conditions :

  • Be between 21 and 24 years of age at the time of applying.
  • Be of legal age in the country of origin and in the host country.
  • Be recognised as medically fit.
  • Have the nationality of one of the 56 member States or member Governments of the French-speaking community and reside on the territory of that State or Government.
  • Hold a university diploma or equivalent.
  • Be of good standing with the laws and administration of his country.

The candidate commits himself/herself for 12 months and undertakes to return to their country of origin at the end of the mission.

The candidate is recruited on a strictly individual basis, and the project excludes any responsibility for the family or any other person. A volunteer cannot make use of their French-speaking volunteering experience to be joined by a third party.

The candidate cannot be a volunteer in their own country.

Female candidates and those from the “southern countries” of central and eastern Europe are strongly encouraged.

The candidate should apply for a single posting from the list of postings available, failing which their application will be rejected.
