GERES – Group for the Environment, Renewable Energy and Solidarity - is a French non-profit NGO created in 1976 after the first Oil Shock. Today, more than 150 staffs work on innovative and sustainable development projects in France and in 12 developing countries.

Environmental conservation, climate change mitigation and adaptation, reducing energy poverty, and improving livelihood of the poor are the main focus areas for GERES. The GERES team is particularly involved in the implementation of engineering solutions for development and providing specific technical expertise.

include conducting energy efficiency programs, providing decentralized energy services for local economic development, supporting and developing renewable energies and promoting waste management. These activities are always implemented in partnership with local stakeholders and communities on the basis of collaborative experience sharing.


Since January 2014, GERES is implementing an EU Switch Asia-funded project in Myanmar, the “Strengthening improved Cookstove Access towards a better quality of Life and Environment (SCALE)” project, in partnership with Ever Green Group (EGG), a local social enterprise specializing in energy solutions. The SCALE project aims at supporting the large scale dissemination of standardized locally-manufactured Improved Cookstoves (ICS) in Myanmar, to structure the ICS value chain, to enhance the market demand and to support the creation of an enabling regulatory and policy framework to contribute to the long term development of the ICS sector in Myanmar.

The Marketing and Communications Officer (MCO) will work under the supervision of the SCALE Project Manager / GERES Myanmar Country Representative and the Marketing, Promotion and Business (MPB) Manager.
She/He will contribute to the implementation of the Improved Cookstove (ICS) communication and marketing strategy within the SCALE project. She/He will also contribute to GERES internal and external communication, with a specific focus on Myanmar.


Contribute to the implementation of the ICS communication and marketing strategy – 60%

Under the direct supervision of the Marketing, Promotion and Business Manager

The Marketing and Communications officer’s main tasks will be :

  • Participate in the development and update of the ICS marketing plan (targets, means, budget)
  • Support the MPB Manager in defining a realistic work plan to achieve the strategy
  • Support the MPB Manager on design, media, message regarding external communication on ICS (Facebook page, website etc.)
  • Bring innovative ideas regarding how to efficiently promote and stimulate market demand for ICS – especially from proven experiences in the sub-region
  • Bring input on gender related issues to ensure they are taken into account in all graphic design and communication initiatives
  • Support the Marketing team in controlling the quality of service providers involved in the production of marketing and promotion material (print-outs, designs etc.)
  • Contribute to the knowledge management of the project on marketing and promotion topics

Contribute to GERES internal and external communication in Myanmar – 40%

Under the direct supervision of the SCALE Project Manager/Country Representative

The Marketing and Communications officer’s main tasks will be :

  • Contribute to raising GERES’s and the SCALE project’s profile in Myanmar
  • Plan and organize events or SCALE/GERES’s participation to external events
  • Coordinate the news posting on the internal blog : topics, frequency, quality and editorial line…
  • Contribute to the smooth collaboration with HQ COM Department on communication order
  • Update a range of communication materials (Website, Profile, Posters, Project Sheets, etc)
  • Carry out a regular and active watch on INGOs and SCALE project related events in Myanmar
  • Carry out a regular press review on any topic related to GERES or SCALE project in Myanmar



  • Master degree in communication, marketing, social business or equivalent


  • 1-2 years’ experience in marketing, communication preferably in an international context
  • Experience with improved cook-stoves dissemination projects an asset
  • Experience in developing countries an asset
  • Skills • Full proficiency in English (writing and speaking)
  • Full proficiency in French (writing and speaking) an asset
  • MS Office + Proficiency in marketing dedicated software (InDesign, Photoshop etc)

  • Duration : International Volunteer Contract (VSI), 12 months, renewable
  • Duty station : Yangon (Myanmar), with travels to the province
  • Volunteer allowance : 850€/month
  • Expatriation allowance : USD420/month (paid locally)
  • Annual leave : 26 days annual paid leave
  • Other benefits : Health insurance, repatriation insurance, round trip ticket (beginning and end of mission)
